Analog Task Light

About

Chris Granneberg designed the Analog Task Light as a vertical sculptural form that happens to illuminate workspaces. Standing considerably taller than typical desk lamps, the piece commands presence through sheer physical commitment, rising from a weighted base through a columnar shaft to an angled head that directs light downward onto surfaces below.

Gantri manufactures the lamp using their proprietary plant-based material, a renewable polymer that accepts color throughout its mass rather than as surface coating. This means scratches and wear reveal the same hue beneath, aging gracefully rather than exposing contrasting substrate. The carbon colorway presents deep charcoal tones that complement most desk arrangements, though Gantri offers alternative shades for those seeking bolder statements.

The light source employs LED technology that dims smoothly from full task brightness down to ambient glow levels. Controls integrate into the lamp body, eliminating the fumbling for wall switches or cord-mounted dimmers that interrupt workflow. Color temperature stays warm enough to avoid the clinical quality of office lighting while remaining bright enough for detailed work when needed.

Surface texture tells the story of Gantri's manufacturing process, a form of 3D printing that builds each lamp layer by layer. Close inspection reveals slight striations that some observers find characterful and others consider unfinished. The texture is an honest expression of production method rather than a defect, though prospective buyers should understand they are purchasing craft-scale manufacturing rather than injection-molded uniformity. For desks that deserve more than commodity lighting, the Analog Task Light offers sculptural presence alongside practical illumination.
