Ashby

About

Carl Friedrik conceived the Ashby as a study in vertical proportion and material restraint. The tote rises taller than it spreads wide, creating a silhouette that carries close to the body without the bulk of messenger bags or the formality of briefcases. Semi-structured leather maintains shape when set down yet gives gently under daily use, developing character through patina rather than losing form.

The grain pattern reads subtle and consistent, avoiding both the uniformity of bonded materials and the irregularity of heavily textured hides. Branding remains nearly invisible, marked only by discreet details that reward close inspection rather than announcing themselves across a room. Interior capacity accommodates a laptop alongside reading material and daily essentials without forcing the sides to stretch or the opening to gape.

A single zippered pocket lines the interior wall, providing secure storage for items that benefit from separation: wallet, keys, phone. The shoulder straps cut from the same leather as the body, ensuring consistent aging across all surfaces. Strap drop positions the bag at hip level during over-shoulder carry, maintaining comfortable access without hanging too low during movement. The Ashby operates equally well navigating a morning commute and wandering weekend markets, its quiet confidence suited to occasions that demand neither formality nor casualness but simply presence.
