Classic Cabin
About
Since 1898, Rimowa has manufactured aluminum luggage in Cologne, Germany, developing proprietary techniques for forming and finishing the grooved shells that became their signature. The Classic Cabin distills more than a century of that accumulated knowledge into carry-on dimensions, creating a piece that functions as both practical travel tool and design object.
The outer casing is pressed from lightweight aluminum alloy, each parallel ridge adding structural rigidity while creating the distinctive surface pattern that airport-goers recognize instantly. Leather handles, finished by hand, wrap around metal cores at the top and side positions, softening the grip while aging gracefully through years of handling. Twin mechanical latches engage with an audible click, their spring-loaded mechanisms engineered for thousands of cycles without loosening.
Beneath the shell, interior dividers segment the packing volume into manageable zones. Compression straps hold garments flat during transit. The telescopic handle extends smoothly from its housing, locking at multiple heights to accommodate different walking paces. Four multidirectional wheels rotate freely, allowing the case to track beside its owner rather than dragging behind.
What distinguishes this luggage from disposable alternatives is its relationship with time. Aluminum dents and scratches, certainly, but these marks become a travel journal of sorts, documenting journeys without diminishing function. The Classic Cabin is built to accompany its owner for decades, improving in character as it accumulates evidence of use.
