Rimowa developed the trunk format for travelers whose journeys extend beyond what cabin luggage accommodates. The Classic Trunk draws proportions from steamer-era baggage, when vertical silhouettes allowed pieces to stack in ship holds and train compartments without wasting valuable cargo space. The shell is formed from anodized aluminum, a process that creates a protective oxide layer harder than the base metal beneath.
