G-Shock GA-2100
About
Casio engineered the GA-2100 to embody the G-Shock philosophy of absolute durability while refining the silhouette into something unexpectedly wearable. The octagonal bezel draws from the original 1983 model's angular DNA yet presents a slimmer profile that sits comfortably under shirt cuffs and integrates naturally with everyday attire. At 11.8mm thick and 45.4mm across, it defies the chunky stereotype often associated with shock-resistant timepieces.
The construction employs Casio's carbon core guard technology, wrapping critical components in a carbon fiber reinforced case that absorbs impact from multiple directions. A layered resin exterior provides additional protection while maintaining a matte finish that resists fingerprints and superficial scratching. Water resistance extends to 200 meters, sufficient for swimming, snorkeling, and incidental submersion without concern.
The dial balances analog hands against a digital subdisplay, offering world time, stopwatch, countdown timer, and five daily alarms without cluttering the face. Luminescent indices and hands ensure visibility in low-light conditions, supplemented by an LED backlight for complete darkness. The mineral crystal sits recessed within protective ridges that reduce direct impact exposure. Despite its capability, the watch weighs just 51 grams, light enough for extended wear during physical activity or travel.
A decade-long battery life means years of service before requiring attention, and the movement maintains accuracy without regular adjustment. The GA-2100 serves as a contemporary interpretation of the tool watch concept, built for reliability in demanding conditions yet refined enough for daily rotation alongside more delicate pieces.
