IC Lights F1

About

Michael Anastassiades conceived the IC Lights series around a moment of impossible balance: a sphere resting improbably on a slender rod, appearing perpetually about to roll yet held in perfect equilibrium. The F1 floor lamp brings this visual tension into inhabitable space, creating presence through geometric reduction rather than ornamental addition.

The blown opal glass sphere diffuses light evenly in all directions, eliminating harsh shadows and creating a soft ambient glow that suits living areas, bedrooms, and reading corners. The glass material itself carries warmth, with subtle imperfections inherent to hand-blown production that distinguish each piece from industrial uniformity. Light passing through the sphere acquires a quality distinct from plastic diffusers or exposed bulbs, softer and more dimensional.

The supporting frame rises from a circular base in either polished brass or chrome finish, each treatment offering different character within the same formal vocabulary. Brass develops patina over years, acquiring depth that rewards those patient with material evolution. Chrome maintains its reflective surface indefinitely, presenting a cooler, more contemporary reading of the same design. The rod itself provides just enough diameter to support the glass sphere while visually disappearing, letting the illuminated globe appear almost to float.

Flos manufactures the IC Lights with the production quality the design demands. Joints are precise, finishes consistent, and proportions maintained across units. The lamp works equally well as a solitary accent or paired symmetrically flanking a sofa or bed. At any scale of use, the F1 contributes architectural presence while maintaining the quietude that distinguishes considered design from mere decoration. For spaces where lighting serves as both function and object, the IC Lights F1 provides both without compromise.
