Il Conico Kettle

About

Aldo Rossi approached the kettle as an architectural problem, reducing it to its most elemental form: a perfect cone rising from a circular base. The result, Il Conico for Alessi, transforms a utilitarian kitchen object into a piece of domestic sculpture that has earned its place in permanent museum collections worldwide. Constructed entirely from 18/10 stainless steel, the body carries a mirror-polished surface that captures and distorts reflections, making the kettle responsive to its environment throughout the day.

The conical geometry serves practical purposes beyond aesthetics. Heat distributes efficiently along the angled walls, bringing water to temperature quickly while the wide base ensures stability on any cooktop. A magnetic steel disc integrated into the bottom provides full induction compatibility, extending the kettle's relevance into modern kitchens without altering Rossi's original vision. Unlike traditional kettles, Il Conico operates in silence, with no whistle to interrupt the ritual. Instead, users learn to read the rising steam and the changing pitch of heating water, a more meditative approach to the daily act of boiling. The angular handle remains cool during use, its form echoing the geometric language of the body, while the tight-fitting lid presses securely into place for controlled pouring. Every surface polishes easily and resists fingerprints, maintaining the pristine appearance that makes this kettle as compelling on display as in active service.
