Madrid Coffee Table

About

Designer Morten Georgsen created the Madrid coffee table for BoConcept with the understanding that living room centerpieces must balance competing demands. The piece needs sufficient surface area for gatherings and displays while maintaining proportions that keep rooms feeling spacious rather than cluttered. The Madrid achieves this through considered geometry and material selection.

The circular top floats visually above its base, creating the impression of a disc suspended in space rather than a heavy object pressing down on the floor. This lightness results from the carefully proportioned pedestal that supports the surface at a single central point, eliminating the visual bulk of four-legged constructions. The 39-inch diameter provides generous usable area for books, trays, beverages, and decorative objects while the 16.25-inch height sits appropriately below typical seating, maintaining sightlines across the room.

The tabletop material deserves particular attention. The dark marble ceramic surface achieves the visual warmth and depth of natural stone while providing the durability and consistency that ceramic technology enables. Unlike actual marble, this surface resists staining from spilled liquids, tolerates temperature variations from hot cups, and maintains its appearance through years of daily use without requiring the sealing and maintenance that natural stone demands.

The color palette tends toward darker tones that anchor rooms without dominating them. This allows the table to serve as a grounding element that complements rather than competes with surrounding furniture and artwork. The overall effect suggests confidence: a piece designed by someone who understood that living room furniture should facilitate gathering rather than demanding attention. It provides surface, defines space, and then quietly recedes into the life happening around it.
