About
Designer Sabine Marcelis brought her background in material experimentation to this collaboration with IKEA, producing a lamp that functions equally as illumination source and sculptural object. The toroidal form casts light both outward through amber-tinted glass and inward toward its hollow center, creating a warm glow that softens surrounding surfaces without the harshness associated with exposed bulbs or clinical white LEDs.
The circular profile references both organic forms found in nature and the precision of geometric ideals, existing comfortably in either naturalistic or modernist interiors. LED technology within maintains energy efficiency while producing the color temperature associated with incandescent warmth, addressing practical concerns without sacrificing atmospheric contribution. Mounting hardware accommodates wall installation where the lamp reads as dimensional artwork, while the weighted base permits freestanding placement on shelves, credenzas, or nightstands. A toggle switch and generous cord length provide placement flexibility without requiring proximity to outlets. The amber glass develops visual depth as viewing angle changes, revealing color density variations that reward sustained attention. VARMBLIXT demonstrates that accessible pricing can coexist with genuine design thinking, bringing museum-quality material exploration into domestic environments.
